Yes, homes can be very unhealthy places to live and can be harming your health and that of your family every day. Take a tour through your home—look under the kitchen sink where most people store their cleaning supplies. Look in the cabinet by your washer and dryer—what do you see there? Look in your medicine cabinet. Oh, that one is worth a blog all by itself! Now look in your garage. Need I suggest more places?
If your home is typical of the American home, you probably found under the kitchen sink, household cleaners that if you read the ingredients, you would be appalled. What about your dish soap, your dishwasher detergent—are they safe? Chances are they too are filled with chemicals that are harmful if swallowed or even breathed. Oven cleaner? They produce toxic fumes that can wreck havoc with your lungs.
Let’s look at your laundry detergents and those dryer sheets. Hmm. Do you intend to wear clothes that have been washed in chemicals? No wonder your liver is working overtime and your lungs are struggling.
Now in the garage people store pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, insect sprays, heavy-duty cleaners, car wash cleaners, paints, and that names just a few. No wonder when there is a house fire—the garage is one of the greatest sources of fuel.
The insidious thing is that most people don’t feel the effects of these chemicals immediately—it’s the accumulation over time. I must admit that I was pretty ignorant of all this myself until I began educating myself, and learning to read labels. It doesn’t help that governmental agencies are in bed with the chemical industry and have approved these toxic chemicals as “safe” to use. This is about money and not about protecting the health of our people. If you don’t believe me, just look at the statistics regarding the rise of chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases. It coincides with the rise of chemicals and plastics. We may only be able to tie a few chemicals to certain illnesses but it is the overwhelming effect of multiple exposures to so many different chemicals that may be the ultimate culprit and downfall of health.
So how do you protect yourself and have a healthy home? Glad you asked. I began by simply replacing one chemical cleaner at a time until my home became chemical free. I use all of Young Living household products. Why you might ask? Because I know they have the highest standard in the industry. All of their products contain essential oils. Their Thieves Household Cleaner is multi-purpose. I dilute it differently to clean windows then for cleaning the floors or bathrooms. I replaced dish soap with their Thieves Dish soap and in the bathroom I replaced dish soap with the Thieves Foaming Hand soap. Once I fell in love with these products, I looked to see what else I could replace. There is a whole Thieves line of products now for a healthy home including laundry soap, dishwasher soap, bar soap, toothpaste, mouthwash, waterless hand purifier, fruit and veggie soak, household spray, wipes, and much more. Want to know a secret? The Thieves products are made without harsh chemicals and are so safe that even if you drink them—they will not harm you. Now can your store bought chemical cleaners make that claim?
