I got my inspiration for this blog from the book, “Three Magic Words” by U. S. Andersen.
Poems have been written about it. Songs have been sung about it. Movies have been made using it as the main plot. Authors and educators have led us to believe that the end-all of love is finding a mate and settling down. Marriage and a home do provide both a release for our sexual drive and, in most cases, the reproductive necessities of society, but neither is in any way a school for love. “For no person can love another unless he/she loves humanity first.” Jesus said, “…thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Based on the recent incidents of mass killings, brutal, physical attacks on people of Asian decent, and the vitriol spewed towards people with differing religious and/or political views, I have reached the conclusion that a number of people find it easier to hold hate than love in their hearts.

In the 1900’s a German psychoanalyst and philosopher, Erich Fromm, contended that western society had been influenced by the Calvinist belief that man was basically sinful, and therefore, self-love was a sin. As I view what is happening in today’s society, I believe that this view is still prevalent in certain parts of the world. Going back to what Jesus said about loving thy neighbor as thyself, if one does not love oneself, if one, loathes oneself, if one finds themself unworthy, does it not stand to reason that that person cannot hold love in their heart for another?

What has this got to do with DreamBuilding? I submit that it has everything to do with the inability to envision a full spectrum life, a life they would love living. The paradigm that communicates to someone that they are not worthy or that they deserve nothing more than they already have in life is a powerful one, but it can be overridden. So, if you believe that you are not worthy of a life full of love, abundance, creativity, or if you have people in your life who try to convince you of that, I would love to have a conversation with you and discuss all the reasons why that is not true and how you can bust that paradigm and begin to envision a full spectrum life.
