Dreams come and dreams go. The important thing in life is not to get attached to only one dream.
That’s true for myself and my husband. Five years ago, we dreamed of a home on a lake, close to mountains. We found it in South Carolina and fell in love with it. It was our “dream home.” Five years older, we have decided to dream a new dream – a downsized version with less space, and less work that will afford us more opportunities to travel where we have always wanted to go.
That takes a bit of courage and trust that all will work out. We are in the midst of selling our beautiful lake home right now and hoping for a bidding war. When you put so much of yourself into a project, you know the value of what you have created. It’s like birthing – in our case, we took an unkempt plain home and made it into a beautiful showcase full of light and energy. The next inhabitants will inherit a sparkling beauty.
As I said, it’s important not to have attachments to things. As many people in the path of wildfires or tornadoes will attest, it’s only “stuff,” and stuff can be replaced or forgotten. Once we sell our home, we will start looking for our next “dream home” that we trust is already waiting for us. What we have and accumulate in this lifetime is really here on borrow. Once we transition to the next realm, it will all get dispersed in one way or another. Just look around your home right now. I bet you have a few things you inherited from your parents or grandparents, aunts, or uncles. I know I do. W all someday will move on without even the clothes on our backs, our bank accounts, or precious momentos of days past. We leave as we came into this world – naked but with great anticipation of what is to come.
One of our greatest gifts given by the Creator is our imagination. We get to imagine every day of our lives. Even Einstein was quoted as saying that imagination is greater than knowledge. When we dream of a new dream home, we imagine pulling up our roots where we are to be free to search for a new place to put down roots. You can apply that thought to lots of things, including relationships. You have already pulled up your roots when love has disappeared and cannot be retrieved. With freedom in hand, you are open to seeking new love, friendships, or partnerships. You can apply this thought to a job that has become stayed and unrewarding. Whether you are aware of it or not, your roots are pretty shallow or have already been pulled out. Recognize it and use your imagination – what would I love doing that would give me joy and fulfillment?
When you take control of your life, Spirit is there to inspire you. Trust that you will not fall, you will not be left alone. Ask the question, “What’s next for me?” or “Where shall I land?” “Is it time for me to dream a new dream?” It was Thomas Edison who said that there is always an answer to every question. So, ask the Universe your questions, be quiet, and listen. You will be inspired in the right direction.
