I recently read; “Mindset-The New Psychology of Success” by Carol S. Dweck, PH.D. In her book, Dr. Dweck explains how we can learn to fulfill our potential. What I discovered is that there is a similarity between her explanation of the “fixed” and “growth” mindsets and the “cause and effect” process we teach in the DreamBuilder program in that whether you have a “fixed” mindset and believe that you are born with a certain amount of intelligence, or talent and that’s it or a “growth” mindset and believe that you can cultivate your intelligence or talent through effort, strategy and help from others, is quite similar to the explanation that our thoughts create emotions which create actions which create results. This is supported in the book, “As A Man Thinketh” by James Allen where he states; “A man is literally what he thinks…”. He goes on to say; “Thought and character are one, and as character can only manifest and discover itself through environment and circumstance, the outer conditions of a person’s life will always be found to be harmoniously related to his inner state.”
Another way of stating this is if one thinks they will never amount to anything, or they never have enough money, or they’re in a loveless relationship but believe that that’s all they can hope for or deserve, then that is what the universe is going to send their way. Where on the other hand, the person who recognizes that they have circumstances that they may not love, but they are not those circumstances, who recognizes they are a spiritual being having a human experience and are stronger than any event, circumstance, or situation, and holds a consistent state of gratitude opens doors to the power of the infinite, universe, God, to put opportunities for success. Henry David Thoreau lived “deliberately” for 2 years, 2 months, and 2 days in a small one room cabin on what is known as Walden Pond. At the end of that period he wrote the findings of his experiment. I’m going to cite what he wrote to bring this in for a landing.
“I have learned this, at least, by my experiment, that if one advances confidently in the direction of their dream, endeavoring to live the life they are imagining, one passes an invisible boundary, all sorts of things begin to occur that never otherwise would have occurred. One begins to meet with a success unexpected in common hours. New, more universal, more liberal laws begin to establish themselves around this person, or the old laws are rearranged on one’s favor, nevertheless, one begins to live with the license of a higher order of being.”
